This week DJ Lace is our guest on the remixmonsta blog. We mainly sat down for an interview on the purpose of his [latest remix of The Weeknd](https://remixmonsta.com/blogarticles/53-the-weeknd-blinding-lights-dj-lace-vancouver-80s-remix) we published this week, but we hit more generic questions along the way about his career.
###When did you start making music? What was your main motivation?
I've been in the business for a while. I started making music when I was around 19. I was a fan of kraftwerk and JMJ and could not figure out how they made those sounds. So I went into a music store and played around with an analog synth and was hooked. I saved up money for while and eventually bought a tr808 and a korg delta synth in a used music shop. I had a couple mono tape decks and made music by overdubbing from one to the next. I started djing soon after and have been doing both as my main employment ever since.
###What software and tools are you using to create your songs? Which part do you enjoy the most during the creation process?
I mostly work in a daw , Ableton 9 but sometimes record to a 24 track. I mix on a dm4800 mixer and have an expansive collection of synthesizers. The type of song I feel like making usually dictates the process I will use to create it. when I use vsts my goto synths are sylenth, serum, avenger, curve & synthmaster. Hardware wise I have almost a hundred synths and rum machines so it varies. I got an original moog source a couple years ago and use it for basslines a lot lately.
###Is there something currently in the making? Can you tell us more about it?
The remixes I do are mostly higher tempo 130-140bpm beats I make mostly to play at my club gig and i just give those away freely, however my originals are a bit more varied. I compose a lot of breakbeats, and am known for some of my vintage Florida breaks. I'm finishing a downtempo breaks album slated for vinyl release this year.
###What are you future plans in let's say 3-5 years ahead?
I design electronics and am working on a couple dj/live pa devices. 3 years from now I hope my electronics company will have broken even and be in full swing. Music wise I'll always be recording and doing live shows, I doubt I will ever stop. :)
